Purpose | To improve the lives of people within the local community by increasing participation in sport, and putting Gresley FC at the heart of the community. As a club we are dedicated to engaging with the community and we recognise that sport can play a key role in bringing a community together. |
Services | Sunday Coaching Club Gresley FC in the Community now offer football coaching sessions for boys and girls aged 4-11 (school year reception - year 6), on Sunday mornings all year round at Eureka Primary School, Midway. Eureka Primary School has kindly offered the school for our use, and sessions are open to all children, not just those who use the school. The sessions are 90 minutes long and will aim to build confidence and teach new skills to children of all abilities within a fun and safe environment. Each week there will be a different topic to develop skills through passing, dribbling, shooting and finishing etc. The sessions will cost just £4.50 each week and will be 9am - 10.30am. Mini-Kickers (for children aged 2-4 years, weekdays) In January 2018 Gresley FC launched a brand new 'Mini-Kickers' football session for both boys and girls aged 2-4 years old every Wednesday morning 10-11am in the hall at Hill Street Baptist Church in Swadlincote. Sessions incorporate fun practices and games working on players' fundamental movements, coordination and basic football skills such as dribbling and striking the ball. Gresley FC in the Community are keen to help children make healthy lifestyle choices and as a result our Mini-Kickers programme is designed with fun at its heart. We believe that the Mini-Kickers is the start of the amazing journey which will see children enjoy sport whilst learning key skills at the same time. Each session is 1 hour long at a cost of £3 per session. Over 50s Walking Football Gresley FC in the Community have successfully been running a walking football session for the local community for the past 3 years and are looking to expand further. The sessions run from 7.30pm - 8.30pm on Mondays. The weekly sessions run at the Pingle School Sports Hall. Walking football is a slower version of the beautiful game and is designed to give players who may not be able to play regular football the opportunity to continue playing - it is proving to be particularly popular with players in the 'twilight' of their football careers. The walking football programme links with GFCITC's key strategy: To improve the lives of people within the local community by increasing participation in sport. This target has been set to be inclusive for all age groups within the community, and the walking football is a great way to get back into a sport that you may have not been able to play in recent years, or have never played it before and are keen to give it a go. GFCITC have been able to enter teams into tournaments to represent the club, and Gresley FC have kindly donated an old first team kit for the players to use during tournaments. The walking football session costs £3 per week, with those planning to take part urged to wear comfortable clothes suitable for walking around and bring along a drink. |
