Purpose | To maintain and develop the tradition of Winster Morris founded on the music, dances and performances embodied in the history of Winster, written down in Cecil Sharp's anthology of Morris Dancing in 1908 and developed over the years through the continuity of the group and in particular since its reformation in 1978. To perform, demonstrate and build awareness of Winster Morris within Winster, the surrounding towns and villages of Derbyshire, and at Festivals, exchange visits and invitations throughout the United Kingdom, and on the Continent of Europe. To welcome new members and provide instruction and practice to enable anyone interested in joining the Winster Morris Dances to take part in our activities as dancer, musician or character and thereby further promote and ensure the continuity of the group and the tradition. |
