| Description | Friends of Markeaton Park are a registered charity who provide educational activities, events and manage the walled garden. Maintenance and improvement of the historic walled garden provides volunteering opportunities for the local community. The walled garden is open to the public on weekends for their enjoyment, visitors can be assured of a warm friendly welcome. The Walled Garden is currently open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays 10am - 12pm for volunteers and visitors. We are also selling our own grown fresh vegetables and fruit during these hours to visitors to the Garden. |

| Purpose | 1) To promote the conservation and protection of Markeaton Park, Derby, Derbyshire for the benefit of the local community and visitors, in particular but not exclusively by managing and restoring the Victorian Walled Garden; 2) To advance education in environmentally friendly gardening skills and horticulture and by providing guided walks, workshops and conservation projects, which will raise awareness of environmental issues; and 3) To provide or assist in the provision of facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure time occupation of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age infirmity or disability, financial hardship or social circumstances with the object of improving their conditions of life |
| Services | Interested in bringing a school group or cub/brownie pack to the walled garden? We can arrange group volunteering (max 15 children) sessions or activities, such as making bird feeders, bug hunts, butterfly feeders etc. (A small charge may apply). Children must be accompanied by an appropriate adult. Are you looking for a team building activity? We can arrange a volunteering task for groups of up to ten people. |
