Halloween and Christmas parties

The Arboretum Community Project is a central part of the association's activities, and will be focused around a community cafe in Arboretum Park in Derby. The cafe will serve affordable hot and cold food and refreshments. It will also support projects such as parent toddler group, health groups, translation service and job club, to help deaf people to break barriers, deaf counselling and advocacy. Access to easy communication with interpreters.The cafe provides halal meat.

The project aims to offer deaf and hearing people work experience and
allows them to interact with people to help develop their social skills,
confidence and self esteem.
Niki Johnson: Project Manager.
Niki oversees the project and continues to foresee the gap in services in Derby to provide what is needed for the community. Overall the project is overseen by the work of Board of the Trustees
Janeene Streather: Café Coordinator.
Janeene runs the Café with Staff, Volunteers + people on work experience to help develop their social skills, confidence and positive well being. Also organises other activities for kids and families in the park and hall.
Helen Phillips: BSL Tutor.
Helen teaches 1:1 Sign language, Family Sign Language and private tutoring. Helen is fully qualified in Deaf Studies (BA Hons), BSL Linguists and trained by NDCS in Family Sign Language she has P.T.T.L.S training level 4.
