| Description | East Midlands Wood Recycling CIC is a Social Enterprise that has been set up to reclaim, reuse and recycle wood, providing good quality wood for sale to the public of Derby and beyond at a great price, wood that without our intervention may have been either chipped or sent to landfill before its useful life is over. We do this whilst providing opportunities for volunteering and training in the local community. |

| Purpose | Main aims and objectives are to: Save resources by rescuing and re-using "waste" timber that could otherwise be landfilled (or at very best "down cycled" into wood chip) Create sustainable jobs and training and volunteering opportunities for local people - especially those who might be described as "disadvantaged" and find it difficult to get back to employment. |
| Services | Our enterprise collects waste wood (primarily from builders) which would otherwise go into skips, take it to our workshops and prepare it for reuse. it is then sold to the public for DIY use, or used to create products. Unsold wood is chipped for recycling. Our volunteers can be involved with: Collecting the wood from builders after learning about health and safety on building sites. Preparing waste timber, and making it ready for retail - separating good from bad, taking out nails, removing paint, cutting off rough ends and sanding down planks. Selling to the public and dealing with retail enquiries in person and on the phone. Learning woodwork skills and making products like shelves and bird boxes. Volunteers with appropriate skills or experience can be involved with driving trucks, passing on woodworking skills, helping to supervise other volunteers, designing products or assisting with the business side of our social enterprise. |
