Purpose | Derbyshire Dales CVS exists to promote strong, sustainable and healthy communities through voluntary and community action. It does this by supporting voluntary and community groups in the Derbyshire Dales, promoting the needs of communities and the work of the voluntary and community sector at a strategic level and by running projects that support disadvantaged people and communities. DDCVS provides information, advice, training and support to local groups and carries out community development work that aims to build social capital and improve the life chances of people through training, activities and community participation. We work in the largest and most rural district in Derbyshire, an area which is affected by issues such as lack of affordable housing, poor access to services and an ageing population. Much of our work is aimed at tackling these problems. We also work in partnership with local government and other agencies to shape the delivery of services. Partnerships help to ensure that we have a coherent and co-ordinated approach to tackling local needs. |
Services | We offer a free service to voluntary organisations and community groups in the form of advice and information services and development work which can cover all sorts of issues. We offer a printing and copying services as well as equipment hire. New Connections is the Social Prescribing service for the Dales and at the CVS we have a team of three social prescribers. GP’s, nurses and other primary health professionals can refer someone to New Connections, who will start by having a conversation with the person about what matters to them. From there, the person will be introduced to activities, groups or services that enable them to get the most out of life. We also work with a wide range of local agencies and groups to ensure we can get you all the up to date information you need about keeping safe and well as we are learning to live with Covid-19 and other health and wellbeing information. We are involved in a major community development project on Hurst Farm in Matlock, involving the redevelopment of Hurst Farm Social Club, and the passing of assets on the estate into community ownership and management, creating jobs and training opportunities for local people. |
