Purpose | To work for the benefit of our members by improving their health and social well being. |
Services | We are small, grass roots, self-help, community group that mainly supports people of south Asian heritage (80%) - the majority of whom have a physical or learning disability. 40% are carers, 60% are being cared for by someone else. Our service users are both men and women. Ages range from 35 – 65 years. We are all volunteers with no paid staff. Over the last few years our work has expanded; and we have been working with older people who are refugees and asylum seekers of Middle Eastern heritage and from Eastern Europe. We have regular group meetings; a drop in service and coffee mornings where we run most of our activities. We provide advice, support and assistance to our members on health and social care related issues such as healthy living, benefit advice, access to services; personalisation and mobility issues. We organise social events, recreational trips and run a gardening and allotment project. We receive referrals for our food bank as well as making referrals to social services. |
