Purpose

The centre
provides a wide range of art, crafts and learning activities, led by the
Activity Coordinators. Care and Support staff ensure there is a choice of other
activities including drama, poetry, cooking, singing, sewing, games, days out
etc.

The centre
is also able to deliver independent living workshops enabling members to
improve their skills in a variety of ways including, money management,
friendships and relationships, safe computer use and meal planning and prep.

Our
experienced Activities Coordinators enable members to produce a huge range of
art, craft and textile work, from painting dramatic sunsets to portraits,
drawing cartoon characters to stunning landscapes; modelling papier-mâché
monkeys to cardboard sci-fi figures, and embroidering cushion covers to sewing
skirts.

We facilitate regular cooking sessions, producing biscuits, cakes,
savoury dishes etc. encouraging members to follow a recipe, weigh ingredients,
wash up etc.

There is an
enthusiastic weekly poetry and discussion group who share poems they like and
devise their own poems on a chosen theme.

There are several
computers that are available to use for searching the internet, helping with
projects and looking up information for themes we are working on etc. We also
have adapted and accessible IT equipment which supports our members to learn
new ICT skills through our ICT workshops.

We have weekly lively music & singing sessions. Members can get
involved using basic instruments, requesting their favourite songs etc.

Other
regular activities include Beauty sessions (manicures, face masks etc.),
Relaxation Sessions, Nintendo Wii Games, Film afternoons, Needles and natter
group, Dancing, Exercise Sessions, Reading Group ‘Talk and Tales’ etc.

During the summer months we use our minibus to get out to parks and local
attractions. We are also able to take individuals swimming, to the gym and
shopping.

The members have weekly visits to the Plot to Plate project, an
accessible allotment run by Disability Direct. The members learn how to sow
seeds, transplant seedlings, look after the young plants and harvest produce.
We also use the produce in our cookery lessons.
