Purpose | High Peak Community Arts provides opportunities for people to participate in high quality creative arts projects. We focus on those with the least access to the arts and culture and we believe that the arts can be a tool for change in people’s lives. We work to break down the barriers to participation in the arts, including geographic location, lack of resources, disability or other personal or social circumstances. Our programmes provide first and onward opportunities for participants of all ages, interests and abilities, to experiment with the creative arts – including film, digital arts, crafts, performance and visual arts; and to create work that reflects and celebrates life. |
Services | Our programme has two main strands: Adults Project eARTh – for adults experiencing mental distress. A mixed programme of collective art projects in a variety of artforms, working collectively to make artworks for the community. Workshops led by professional artists, supported by a mental health worker and volunteers. Creative Wellbeing – for women escaping domestic violence and recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. A mixed programme of mainly visual arts projects. Youth & families Film Cuts Club – for young people aged 8+ with additional needs. A filmmaking club featuring art and animation, creative writing, technical skills, acting, directing and editing. Social Arts Exchange – for young people aged 8+ who have been especially effected by the pandemic. A creative mentoring scheme taking referrals from school and community partners. Tall Tales – an open access project for young people aged 8+. A music and performing arts project based firstly in Gamesley, Glossop and Fairfield, Buxton, then working together in a creative summer school to create a collective piece of performance. For the Love of Books – for children in their early years and their families. Currently a visual art and music strand to create a High Peak ABC book and song for publication. |
