Purpose Monkey Park is a community hub with a difference. Created by local residents, without grant funding, in a semi-derelict 2,200 square foot former tile showroom with the leadership & much of the building work being performed by volunteers. It started up using loans from local people; using a tax break called Social Investment Tax Relief.

Now Monkey Park provides a community hub, café meeting spaces, fresh bread bakery and cycle workshop on the ground floor. Most importantly, it’s a non-profit community enterprise - all profits made will be reinvested or returned to local community projects (such as Monkey Park’s recent work putting new paths in the local park).

Within the community café space, the Monkey Park team aim to create and support lots of community groups and services, such as: book clubs, community Lego Club for people with learning disabilities, a repair café, skills sharing and much more. Spaces are available for events in the evening and weekends.

The cycle workshop takes in donation bikes for refurbishment, performs repairs & provides skills to local people through Bike Kitchen training events.

Upstairs, there’s Chesterfield’s first collaborative office. ‘Monkey Park Works’ is a community of people who share an office! - a co-work space that enables community groups and organisations, charities, startups & micro businesses to have very affordable & flexible access to professional office facilities from £25 per month per person.
