Purpose So what exactly is Derby City Sport Forum, what does it do and how can it help clubs and groups?

The Forum was set up several years ago and members spent some time in workshops deciding exactly what its role would be.

In September 2012 members adopted a new, simple constitution (see separate listing) saying how the forum should operate.

Its aims and objectives are to promote and celebrate sport, to act as a lobbying group, to champion sport, sporting opportunities and facilities for all, and promote diversity in sport.

We are not just a talking shop – we are a meeting place for ideas, where members can swap best practice, inform others about new opportunities, and reveal sources of finance and grants and ways to raise income.

Meetings are held six times a year, every two months, with an annual meeting in September to elect officers. They are often held at different premises, kindly hosted by clubs, so that members can see the latest developments. Committee meetings are also held inbetween.

And we take action – when there was a question mark over whether the planned Arena would go ahead we sent a letter to the leaders of all the parties on the council urging the authority to proceed so as to increase and modernise facilities and be true to the legacy of the 2012 London Olympics.
