Purpose | Hobby-Talk is a peer support group providing social activities for men through sharing hobbies amongst its members. The group is a safe environment for men with mental health and hidden illnesses (from age 18 upwards) to showcase their hobbies, share their interests with other group members and access new hobby activities. We are an inclusive group, open to men whatever their circumstances and operate on the basis of mutual respect and supporting men through friendship with shared purpose. Hobby-Talk provides support, friendship and opens up new doors to those men who cannot confide in their family and friends via sharing the hobbies that they enjoy doing in their spare time with other men. In turn, the group's members get to experience new activities and hobbies and enjoy the camraderie of joining in and sharing the fun. We also signpost members to find appropriate support where necessary (e.g. around drugs/alcohol addiction and recovery) from other service providers and agencies. The group meets every two weeks on a Wednesday for 2 - 3 hours. It's a chance to free their minds and catch up with each other without any stigma attached. It's also a great opportunity to try someone else's hobby, and plan the following Hobby-Talk involving all the member's ideas. In between meetings, through the Facebook group page and email, members can keep in touch, share life and reach out to each other for support and friendship. |
Services | Mens peer to peer mental health support both online and at face to face at fortnightly meetings. Online support is available 24/7 depending on who is online, the group relies upon each other to support other group members. Members showcase their passion and or hobby at every meeting tackling the stigma of mental health via the means of hobbies. We will also signpost and utilise a multi agency approach where we can. |
