Purpose

Our main function is the search and rescue of injured or missing people, principally in upland or mountainous areas, but we can be called on whenever our specialist skills may be of use, such as searching for vulnerable persons in rural areas.
The team are trained for many different types of incident including crag rescue and rope access, missing person search, flood and swiftwater water rescue, and pre-hospital emergency medicine.
Our principal area of operations extends from the southern Peak District to as far south as Milton Keynes, covering parts of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, and Staffordshire. We can also be called to assist teams in other areas when needed. In the past, the team has attended incidents in areas as far afield as Wales and Scotland, most notably the 2015 floods in Carlisle and Penrith, the Lockerbie Air Disaster and closer to home the Kegworth Air Disaster.
Services

We are a voluntary emergency service who attend callouts in response to requests from Derbyshire Police, East Midlands Ambulance Service, and West Midlands Ambulance Service.  Derby Mountain Rescue Team is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and consists entirely of highly skilled unpaid volunteers.

Meeting Place Team training is held at various locations.
Service Costs Our annual operating costs are in the region of £30,000. This covers the running costs for three blue light vehicles, specialist rescue equipment and garage and storage facilities.
