Fifth Word Theatre company

We work with youth groups, schools and other arts organisations to provide projects that make a real difference to their communities.At Fifth Word, we believe that creative learning actively engages young people and their communities in an exploratory and inspirational way - building confidence, independence and aspirations for both individuals and groups.Projects we develop respond to local needs and are shaped by the communities we are based in. It is important that participants can access these projects free of charge in order to provide opportunities to those communities that need it most. This is possible thanks to support from our partner organisations and various funding bodies.We also develop participation plans alongside our touring productions to have a specific focus on working with new talent and new voices in each area we visit.

Fifth Word is run by Joint Artistic Directors and founding members Angharad Jones and Laura Ford. We produce and tour ambitious new plays from the most exciting voices around the UK. Our work shines a light on unheard stories bringing fresh, engaging work to theatres’ and younger audiences. We present plays that entertain, emotionally engage and spark debate relevant to our time. Founded in the East Midlands, we nurture regional voices and the next generation of talent.
