Purpose

To maintain and improve the appearance of both New
Mills Central and New Mills Newtown railway stations to make them a pleasant
place to visit by foot, car or by rail. This is done in collaboration with
Network Rail, Northern Rail, the local authorities and the High Peak and Hope
Valley Community Rail Partnership. Our activities include maintaining flower
and shrub borders, planters and signage, undertaking small projects and keeping
the immediate station environment clean and tidy.

Services

We are open to anyone who enjoys volunteering to work
in the open air doing something constructive for other people for a couple of
hours per month. This does involve light to medium physical activity. Our business
meetings and admin work require a variety of office skills and experience, or a
willingness to learn.

Opening Times We stage ‘working parties’ at the station monthly on the third Saturday in each month (excluding January) 10:00-12:00 and have bi-monthly review meetings either face-to-face at a local venue (e.g., a pub or Rock Mill Centre) or via a free dial in telephone conference if necessary.
Eligibility Criteria Anyone can benefit from our activities as the stations are almost fully accessible (one platform can only be accessed via steps). Volunteer work at the station is subject to minimum age of 16 (or lower with parent/guardian present) for safety reasons.
