Purpose As a volunteer community organization, our mission statement has always been to bring people together and encourage new friendships and mutual support groups. We have a particular remit to actively direct support towards mental and physical wellbeing. Not only do we want to forge strong relationships in our community but also across the borders into the surrounding local communities. We believe that when residents have increased opportunities for both social interaction and diversions, this decreases social isolation and improves mental health. Research has shown that by offering activities for health and wellbeing ‘on the doorstep’ makes potential attendees more inclined to continue with activity longer than the initial rush of enthusiasm.
Services 1. Free or heavily discounted opportunities for activities centred around mental health and physical wellbeing: yoga, tai chi, keep fit.
2. Heavily discounted day trip opportunities for both leisure and historical/horticultural interest.
3. Opportunities to participate in group horticultural activities – offering mutual companionship, acquisition of horticultural skills and physical exercise.
4. Free Christmas meal for village residents over the age of 60.
5. Annual flowerpot festival – all village members encouraged to take part FOC.
6. Christmas party with brass band, Easter and Halloween parties – heavily subsidized.
