Purpose

Sight Support Derbyshire is here to help from the moment you’re diagnosed with an eye condition leading to sight loss.
We offer advice and reassurance, and help with the practical things in life like coping at home or getting around. You can get out and about with our social activities. And if you have a child aged 8 or over with a visual impairment, we have youth groups and school holiday fun.

Eligibility Criteria For our Low Vision Service To be eligible for this service, you must have a GP who is registered in Derbyshire, be over 18 years of age, and have some residual vision. This means, for example, being able to see your fingers wiggling at arm’s length. Low vision services for children and young people are provided through the hospital. For our Befriending service the criteria is: -Live in Derby or Derbyshire -Are aged 50 or over -Live alone -Have a sight impairment which impacts on your daily life -Are feeling lonely or isolated -Have little or no social interaction -Have little or no family or carer support -Spend much of your time alone For our Children and Young People services you need to be aged between the ages of 8-18 and have a visual impairment For our Living Well Service the criteria is: -have a visual impairment -are living with additional long term health conditions -live alone or spend large parts of the day alone -have little family/carer support nearby
